LSBU Year One

Completed · academic record

My first year of Product Design and Technology at London South Bank University produced three briefs and a set of firsts: first laser cutting, first furniture build, first game hardware. The semester one portfolio, submitted in 2025, is the source for everything shown here.

Pillow Perch

A compact perch for a user who is always cold: integrated storage for a full double duvet and two pillows, working as rocking perch, ottoman and blanket dispenser. Built fast in solid wood, tested across body sizes, and finished to the priority order that stuck, structure and comfort before surface.

SIK Display

A team built desktop object making mental health support approachable: a reflective laser cut brain, a leaflet, a code that opens the university's support directory. My first CAD, my first DXF files, my first laser cutting, and the project where I first began to clearly identify as a designer.

1D Mini

The third brief became a complete project in its own right, and has its own page.

LEGO Suitcase

A short CAD mechanism study in Fusion 360: a suitcase in a familiar modular language with custom wheel, badge and handle components and a telescoping handle constrained to twenty five millimetres of controlled travel. A study in observation, dimensional control and technical communication.

A small team project also explored a low cost home diagnostic kit for insulation, heat loss and energy use; it reached prototype and pitch stage.

Reflection

The year's real output was clarity: I do my best work in sustained, making led time with open critical discussion. That is how I intend to keep working.
